The Windsor & District Lions Club will be offering a $750 bursary,  The Art Benedict Memorial Bursary, to graduating students from Avon View High School.  Applications will be considered on the basis of Academic achievement, activities and financial need.

Eco Canada is offering the Newalta Aboriginal Environmental Scholarship of $2500 to First Nation Students. 
Students must submit all  documents by Tuesday, May 22nd:
·         500-word essay,
·         proof of Aboriginal ancestry,
·         proof of enrolment, and/or
·         reference letter

The University of King's College is home to one of best journalism  schools in Canada.  There are numerous entrance bursaries, four diversity scholarships  (including one that offers full tuition), and two additional awards  within the School of Journalism.

The Ryan Lahey Memorial AV Soccer Bursary was created by the family of Ryan Lahey in memory of Ryan who passed away tragically in 2007.  Ryan was a 2005 graduate of Avon View High School and was an avid soccer player and fan.  Each year, a soccer tournament, The Ryan Lahey Memorial Tournament and the proceeds from the tournament, help to assist in funding this bursary.

Three bursaries in the amount of $250 will be awarded to graduating students of AVHS.  (two males and one female student).  Students who meet the following criteria are encouraged to apply:
- have demonstrated a love of soccer and played soccer throughout their schooling years
- have demonstrated team work and commitment to their team and sport
- must have played on the Avon View High School Soccer team and with the West Hants Soccer Association

Students must complete the WAEFA application form and to attach all supporting documents required in order to be considered for this bursary.

 

Victory Credit Union is offering two (2) $1000.00 educational awards to the graduating class of Avon View High School.  Applicants will be considered on the basis of community involvement, academic achievement and must be a member of Victory Credit Union.

Applications may be picked up at Student Services for the Windsor Fire Department Auxiliary Bursary.  To qualify for this bursary, graduating students must be a child or
grandchild of an auxiliary member, Firefighter, veteran or be a firefighter of the Windsor Fire Department.  Application deadline is May 31.

Annapolis Valley Chamber of Commerce is pleased to offer a scholarship in the amount of $1000 to a qualified high school student. The scholarship will provide financial
assistance for a graduating student to further his or her education.  This award is intended for a graduating student in the Annapolis Valley attending a university or post secondary educational college. The candidate must be interested in pursuing studies in business.

For consideration, interested students may submit the following: a covering letter outlining their future plans - the big picture (approx 250 words) the reasons why they
have chosen to enter into a business program (approx 250 words) resume with 3 years background.  The quality and presentation of their written submission will be taken into
consideration.

The Nova Scotia Tourism Human Resource Council offers three scholarships for students who are pursuing post secondary education in tourism and hospitality and culinary.  To
download the application form, please click on the Scholarship section of the website – tourismhrc.com.  Students may apply for only one scholarship.  In addition to the
student’s resume, transcript, letters of reference and essay, applicants are encouraged to submit a portfolio.  The deadline for submission is May 22, 2012.

 

The Valley African Nova Scotian Development Association is providing financial assistance for two African Nova Scotian graduates who are attending Acadia University in September. 
The 2012 William Hall Scholarship is worth $1000 and to be eligible, students must have an average of  75%, have a completion of math, science, English, global and language
requirements and submit a 1000 word essay on William Hall.  Application deadline is May 15, 2012 and more information is available at Student Services.

 

If you are going to NSCC in September and have at lest a 75% average, you could have your first year tuition paid for. Applications are due to NSCC through mail by May 15.  If you

Applications for the Nova Scotia Fruit Growers� Association Bursary are at Student Services. The NSFGA is offering a Bursary of $500.00 for the year 2012 to a student entering or already in a post secondary educational program in the field of tree fruit production or a related science program. Priority will be given to a member, or the child of a member of the NSFGA. This bursary will be awarded to a deserving student based on academic achievement, participation in school and community activities and
interest in the tree fruit industry. Application deadline is May 29, 2012.

 

Applications for the Hants Shore Community Health Centre are at Student Services. This is a $500 bursary and is paid upon proof of completion of first term at a post secondary institution. To be eligible you must be a graduate living in the health centre's catchment area which is Upper Burlington to Tennecape. Deadline is May 18, 2012 and more information is at Student Services.

 

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #165 in Mount Uniacke will be accepting applications for two $1,000.00 bursaries. Students must reside within the area served by Uniacke District School and must have a parent or grandparent who has served in the military. Bursaries are awarded based on financial need of the student and deadline for applications is June 1. Pick up your application at Student Services.

 

Bursary applications from the Royal Canadian Legion Hants Co. Branch 009 are now available at Student Services.  To be eligible you must be a resident of West Hants during your last high school year; be a son, daughter, grandchild of a veteran; be accepted at a post-secondary institution; be a deserving candidate and be in financial need.  Completed applications are to be handed in the Student Services by May 31.

 

 

Applications for the Valley Recreation Coordinator’s /Director’s Association (VRCDA) may be picked up at Student Services.  The association’s purpose is to cooperate, foster and promote recreation opportunities to the residents of the Valley.   Two bursaries are to be awarded in the Valley area this year with the value of each bursary at $500. 
Applicants must be students who are entering into their first year of a post secondary recreation program in Nova Scotia.  Deadline for applications is May 11, 2012.

To celebrate its 10 Year Anniversary, Centre for Arts and Technology is pleased to announce that they will be awarding scholarships totaling $475,000.  To apply for a
scholarship, students are asked to fill out an application concluding with a short essay detailing where they see themselves in 10 years time.  More information about the
scholarships and instructions for application can be found at Student Services.

 

 

The deadline for applications for the W. Garfield Weston Awards to be received is 28 March 2012. Up to 25 awards are available to students who begin their college studies at

The award comprises an $8,000 annual stipend, a tuition waiver from a participating college and $3,500 in summer funding. It also includes a mentorship program and

The Annapolis Valley Regional School Board is providing two scholarships of $500 each to be awarded to two graduating students from the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board who are 1) of African descent, and 2) of Aboriginal descent, and who are entering a post-secondary institution in September.  Applications are at Student Services and the
deadline for these applications is April 15, 2012.

Graduates who are pursuing a degree/diploma in commerce/finance/business may want to apply for one of two $6,000 national scholarships – C.S.T. Consultants Inc. Guruparan and Winsor Scholarships.  This program is aimed at those students who parents/guardians do not have a post-secondary education or received their post-secondary education outside of Canada.  The Awards Selection Committee will award $6,000 to one successful female applicant for the Guruparan Scholarship and $6,000 to one successful male applicant for the Winsor Scholarship, through competition.   Applications and more information may be picked up at Student Services.  Deadline to apply is April 30, 2012. 3.        Community College/Trade School Application Form for a value of $1,800
4.        Performing Arts Application Form for a value of $1,000
Application deadline for the University Entrance Scholarship is May 31, with the Post Secondary Application Form, the Community College/Trade School Application Form and the Performing Arts Application Form deadlines being July 31.

The Bell Aliant Pioneer Volunteers provides an annual scholarship award of $2000 for a person with vision loss, living in Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island, to assist with
tuition costs while attending a post-secondary educational program.  The candidate should have a reasonable level of achievement and a genuine need for financial assistance.  Applicant forms and all documentation must be received by the Selection Committee by April 30, 2012.  Applications may be picked up at Student Services.

 

 

St. Thomas University is holding the Atlantic Student Journalism Awards.  This awards program was launched to celebrate and promote the work of promising young journalists in our region.  All students who are enrolled full or part-time in a high school in Atlantic Canada or New England may submit up to three entries, either in print, television or radio, for consideration.

The winner will receive $1500, and the runner-up will receive $500.  Additionally, the winner will be eligible for a $1,500 tuition credit if he or she enrolls to St. Thomas University.  A poster promoting the awards is outside Student Services and students may also visit the contest website, www.stu-sja.ca .

 

 

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia (ICANS) is pleased to announce that it is offering four $1000 Scholarship awards to Nova Scotia high school students who are graduating in June 2012 and attending university in September 2012 to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in business or Commerce.  Applications may be picked up at Student Services and the deadline for applications is April 27, 2012.  Applications may also be found at ICANS' website at www.icans.ns.ca .
